Privacy, in practice

How your data moves

Your data stays on your device. Here is what the app sends to fetch prices, word for word.

Stays on your PC

Your records, in a database on your PC. No Pulse Neuron account; we keep no copy.

  • Ticker symbols
  • Currency codes

Prices and other market data come from Twelve Data.

The rest of what moves

  • Also leaves your PCYour IP address, company-logo requests, and Windows' own Store checks.
  • Check it yourselfGlass Box, free in the app, shows what it has sent.
  • BackupsAutomatic backups go to Documents, which OneDrive may back up.

And the part we do not do: no phone app and no sync. It runs on your PC, by design.

In the app's own words

Before you enter a figure, the app tells you this.

The app's first-run notice, page two: Privacy & Disclaimers. Its Privacy Notice has five points, the first “Your data stays on your device. Your portfolio, household and family records are kept in a database on this PC. There is no Pulse Neuron account, and we keep no copy of your records.” Below it the Disclaimers card begins; Exit Pulse Neuron, Back and Next sit at the foot of the window.
First-run notice · every planRendered by the app's own tests for a new profile, before any data.

The requests, word for word.

Built as the app's 1.6.4 code builds them. The symbols, dates and search are examples; Glass Box shows the real ones from your own PC.

When the app asksEvery planShow the detailsHide the details
When
This happens when you search for or add an instrument, refresh prices, or open a page that needs market data the app does not have yet. Company details, such as sectors and 52-week ranges, load in the background after a refresh.
Setup
Set up what you already own asks the same kinds of question: a search for each investment you look up, a price for each one new to the app and, for purchases in another currency, the daily exchange rates from a week before the earliest such purchase to the latest. A holdings table you paste or choose is read on this PC; only its tickers are looked up.
Price units
After a refresh, the app may also ask about London, Johannesburg or Tel Aviv holdings that the refresh did not price, once for each until it knows, with the same kind of request, to learn whether their prices come in pence, cents or agorot. It keeps only that answer, never the price.
The price of each symbol you hold or look upPOST /marketdata/quotesShow the detailsHide the details
POST /marketdata/quotes{"symbols":["AAPL","VOO","BTC/USD"]}

The server is asked what a symbol is worth, never what you own of it.

An exchange rate, today's or a past day'sGET /fx/spotShow the detailsHide the details
GET /fx/spot?baseCcy=AUD&quoteCcy=USDGET /fx/history?baseCcy=AUD&quoteCcy=USD&date=2026-07-25

Two three-letter codes and, for a past day, which day's rate is wanted, such as the day of a trade in another currency. The household side asks the same when an account is in another currency.

Exchange rates over a span of daysPOST /fx/history/rangeShow the detailsHide the details
POST /fx/history/range{"startDate":"2021-08-26","endDate":"2021-09-02","pairs":[{"base":"EUR","quote":"USD","baseCcy":"EUR","quoteCcy":"USD"}]}

Sent, for example, when you set up holdings bought in another currency: each pair, and the first and last day whose rates are wanted, from a week before the earliest such purchase to the latest. Never what you bought, or how much.

An instrument search, as you typeGET /marketdata/searchShow the detailsHide the details
GET /marketdata/search?q=microsoft

The text you typed, because the search cannot run without it.

A dividend checkPOST /fundamentals/dividendsShow the detailsHide the details
POST /fundamentals/dividends{"symbols":["KO"],"range":"2y","freshAfterBySymbol":{"KO":"2026-09-15T00:00:00.0000000Z"}}

For each symbol, how recent an answer must be: worked out from when the app last checked it and when the next payment is due.

A share-split checkPOST /fundamentals/splitsShow the detailsHide the details
POST /fundamentals/splits{"symbols":["AAPL"],"range":"full","freshAfter":"2026-10-01"}

The date is sent only while the app verifies a possible split: an older answer could not hold it.

The install identifier, oncePOST /auth/registerShow the detailsHide the details
POST /auth/register{}

An empty body. The price service answers with a random identifier, which the app keeps on this PC.

The version, then the signature that proves the request came from this install. The lane reads background for company details, dividend and split checks; the one-time registration carries only the first two lines.

GET https://api.twelvedata.com/logo/apple.com

Straight from the market-data provider's logo host, not through the price service, with no identifier or cookie from the app.

Check it on your own PC: Glass BoxFreeShow the detailsHide the details
  1. Refresh your prices, or search for an instrument, so the app has something to ask.
  2. Open Manage → Glass Box. It is free on every plan.
  3. Press “Show me”: the ledger lists each request with its exact query string, the start of its body and its byte counts.
  4. Thirteen rules look for a personal name, a money amount or an account number before a request leaves; a match is drawn in red.
  5. The ledger holds the last 200 requests in memory only: it starts empty each time the app opens and is never written to disk.
  6. Logo requests and Windows' Store checks go outside the app's own network stack, so Glass Box names them instead of counting them.

Questions to ask any money appShow the detailsHide the details
  1. Do I need an account with you?

    No. There is no Pulse Neuron account: a password you set opens the app on this PC. Pro is bought through the Microsoft Store.

  2. Do I have to hand over my bank login?

    No. You download a statement from your bank, as CSV, OFX, QFX or QIF, and import the file. It is read on your PC.

  3. What does the household side cost?

    Nothing, on every plan, for as many family members as you have. Pro adds the deeper investing pages.

  4. Where does my ledger live?

    In a database file on your PC, with automatic backups in your Documents folder or one you choose. You can export a full portfolio bundle, or your transactions as a workbook or CSV, whenever you like.

  5. Who can open that file?

    Anyone who can sign in to your Windows account. The app's password and PIN open the app; they do not encrypt the file. Protecting it at rest is Windows' job: device encryption or BitLocker, if it is turned on.

  6. What leaves it, and can I check?

    The market questions on this page, with an anonymous install identifier and the app version. Glass Box, free in the app, lists each request as it is made, and names the connections it cannot count.

And if you stop paying for Pro? Your data stays. A plan change never deletes a portfolio: Pro pages lock, and every free page keeps working. Free runs one portfolio at a time, so a second one stays on your PC and opens again with Pro.

Reminders
Bill, dividend and Day Ahead reminders are off until you turn them on. Windows schedules them on this PC, from your own records; on a new install they leave out amounts, which Settings can change.
One review prompt
At most once, the app may open Microsoft's own rate-and-review dialog. A review you choose to write goes to Microsoft.
This website, and email
The site counts page views with Vercel Web Analytics, cookieless and aggregate; there is no tracking in the app. Email us, and we use your message and address only to reply.

Read the receipt on your own PC.
